ICC WORLD T20 (MEN)
It is planned that the eighth ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in Australia in October and November 2022, will be held in 2022. The international cricket council (ICC) announced in July 2020 that the event has been postponed because of the COVID-19 epidemic from its original 2020 date. The T20 World Cup was originally set to take place in India in 2021 but was then changed to the UAE and Oman. The ICC also announced in August 2020 that Australia would host the rescheduled tournament in 2022. All of the tournament’s schedules were confirmed by the ICC on January 21, 2022. Australia, the hosts, is also the current champion.
HISTORY
The ICC confirmed in April 2018 that the competition would take the place of the original 2021 ICC Champions Trophy date. This came about after the ICC granted Twenty20 matches between member teams full international status beginning on January 1, 2019.
The T20 World Cup Qualifier, which served as a means of admission to the T20 World Cup, was reportedly in danger of being axed by the ICC in October 2019. As a result, four teams from qualification events and twelve teams from the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup would both qualify for the tournament. The ICC officially announced all of the tournament qualification information on January 23, 2020. After the BCCI failed to obtain a tax exemption from the Indian government for the event, the ICC informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in May 2020 that they reserve the power to revoke India’s hosting rights.
Earl Eddings , the chairman of Cricket Australia, indicated that Australia may host that event in October 2021, and India could host this tournament a year later in 2022, when the previous edition of the tournament was being assessed because to the COVID-19 pandemic, in July 2020. The hosts of the tournaments that were initially slated to take place in 2020 and 2021, respectively, would be Australia or India, the ICC further revealed.
