SUMMARY

Darts, often known as dart-throwing, is a competitive activity in which two or more players hurl small sharp-pointed missiles called darts at a spherical target called a dartboard with their hands. Darts players are referred to as “dartists” on occasion.
Points are awarded by hitting specific defined parts of the board; however, unlike in sports like archery, these locations are dispersed all over the board and do not follow a principle of increasing points as you get closer to the center. Though there are a variety of comparable games with different boards and regulations, the term “darts” is now used to refer to a standardised game with a specified board design and set of rules. Darts is a traditional pub game as well as a professional shooting sport. Darts is a popular sport in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, as well as in other parts of the world.

History of DARTS

Darts are a sport that began in archery and has been played in pubs across the United Kingdom since the 1970s. However, evidence of comparable games dating back to the early 1300s has been discovered. Soldiers would have played this game in their spare time, which involved hurling sharp projectiles at round chunks of wood and furniture. Soldiers eventually turned to this primitive type of darts to help them improve their aim. Over time, the hobby became popular among the troops.

Rules of DARTS

The rules of darts are basic and have been covered in detail in earlier sections. The following are some crucial points to remember:

  • In a game, the first turn is decided by each player throwing a single dart, with the player closest to the bull receiving the first toss.
  • Unless the game is won in fewer than three darts, a throw consists of tossing three darts.
  • Only darts that are still in the board at the end of the throw are counted, and those that bounce or fall out are not counted.
  • If a player scores more points than he or she has left, the throw is over and the player receives a zero (for example if they have 16 remaining and accidentally hit a 20 with their first dart).
  • The bull’s center should be exactly 5ft 8in (1.73 meters) tall.
  • Darts are thrown from a clearly delineated toe-line, known as the oche, that is at least 7ft 9 14 in horizontally from the board.
